little info about yourself (where are you from / retired
/ line of work):
I'm from Wisconsin, living in Phoenix AZ for 8 years
now. Love it. My wife's family are from Acapulco. I
have made the drive there and back twice! |

was your destination / what part of Mexico were you
traveling in?
We figured..drive as much in the US as possible..so
our route went from Phoenix-> Tuscon-> El Paso->
San Antonio-> Eagle Pass boarder cross and register
vehicle -> straight down to Mexico City and then
angle over to Acapulco....we took the same way back.
THIS year we heard that the road through the middle
of Mexico (45) (49) was much improved and that we
should take that route and save 3-5 hoursoff our route
each way.

Purpose was Vacation and take household items
from US to there.

2003 Toyota Tundra

did the vehicle handle the trip?
Vehicle performed OUTSTANDING. Best Truck ever
made, no question about it. |

were the road conditions? Any specific areas to be
aware of?
Road conditions were 75 % nice smooth 2 lane highway.
25% dangerious-gravel topped curvey roads!

you have a good time?
Despite the LONG hours on the road each way...we had
agreat time.

you drive to Mexico again?
My wife started the Journey yesterday. I'm flying
down at the end of the month and driving back with
her.

would you do differently next time?
This time I'd like to take a shorter Route! ALso,
FYI..we heard from various sources that the coastal
route is very dangerous and takes longer.

words of advice do you have for others driving to
Mexico / or others who are driving to a particular
destination?
1) if you do not speak spanish FLUENTLY, travel with
a native Mexican.

were some of the highlights of the trip? We would
really like to hear about these! The more descriptions
and details, the better!
too many to name. The aztec ruins were aweseome
...and well.. Acapulo speaks for itself.

did you sleep? Can you recommend a place to stay?
SLEPT in truck....we took turns and drive 35 hours
striaght.
