soft top. | | | How

ideal for Mexico. | | | How
were the road conditions? Any specific areas to be aware of? I thought
the main roads were very good, and particularily the 1 and 1/2 lane system. Once
you get used to it, is very effective. Off the main thuroughfares, roads can be
bad. Pot holes, and Speed Bumps. | | | Did

Tampa Florida to Puerto Morelas. 36 hours. Cruise Ship. 2 people, vehicle, port
taxes, meals, room. about $500.00 US. | | | Would

Detroit, to San Diego, Tijana, to Cabo San Lucas. | | | What
would you do differently next time? Nothing, so far. | | | What
words of advice do you have for others driving to Mexico / or others who are driving
to a particular destination? Do your homework. Purchase Mexican Insurance
on line. Print out policy, AND MAKE COPIES. Register your vehicle on line. Print
out, AND MAKE COPIES. Make copies of your Passport, Vehicle Ownership. Put in
a folder, makes it easier for customs. | | | What
were some of the highlights of the trip? We would really like to hear about these!
The more descriptions and details, the better! Akumal, Mexico. About 100
miles south of Cancun. Yucatan Peninsula. Akumal is located between Playa Del
Carmen, and the ruins of Tulum. Rented for 4 months, 1 bedroom studio, Living
room, kitchen, and large bathroom. On the beach. Pool and Jacuzzi. Kyaks. Snorkeling,
diving off the beach. 20 minute walk along Jade Beach to village of Akumal. Main
attractions nearby: Puerto Aventuras(interact with dolphins), Xcaret(Disneyland
of Mexico). Xel Ha (great snorkeling), ruins of Tulum(15 minutes), ruins of Coba
(highest pyramid in Mexico), Akumal(2 dive shops, ecological center, fishing,
Market fresh fruit & vegetables every Wed, and Sat, stores, restaurants, etc).
Happy Hour, 5 to 6:30. Great Margeritas! 4 hour drive to Mexico, Belize border.
4 hour drive to Chichen Itza Ruins. Akumal, is Mayan word for Turtle. Turtles
lay their eggs on the beaches April and May. Diving and snorkeling excellent anywhere.
Like an Aquarium. We saw lots of Turtles. Area is noted for its Underwater Fresh
Water Caves, called Cenotes. Longest in the world. For a new experience, you can
Dive these. My son and his wife came in February for 2 weeks. My son came back
on his own for another week for more diving and snorkeling. My daughter and oldest
grandson came for a week, March break. Its truly a Paradise. | | | Where
did you sleep? Can you recommend a place to stay? Lots of resorts. The
Akubal Beach resort, is all inclusive, and is very reasonable. We paid $1500 a
month for our unit, that included Cable TV, Bottled water, Daily maid service,
all untilities. The place is kept spotless. | | | Can
you recommend any restaurants? There is a variety of restaurants. Being
there for 4 months, we particularily enjoyed the local out of the way spots that
were reasonable and good, if you like Mexican cuisine. Other touristy restaurants
in the area.......are nice, but pricy. Some open air spots on the beach are also
very good, and reasonable. | | | Any
other comments...feel free to ramble! I studied some Spanish before I
retired. And what I like about Mexico, is when you attempt to communicate in their
language, they are very encouraging. I find the Mexican people very family and
tradition orientated, much like Canadians. They are very proud of there culture.
This winter, I'm off to Cabo San Lucas for 4 months. | | | Note:
