| | A
little info about yourself (where are you from / retired / line of work): I
am English and living in Tucson, Arizona. I have written freelance for an English
newspaper and also design jewellery for my own company in Arizona.
| |
| | Date
of your trip: Dec 6, 2003
| | How
many days were you in Mexico? I visited Mexico for eight days, I travel to
Mexico many times throughout the year as I have time share at the new Mayan Palace
resort in Peurto Penasco.
| | What
was your destination / what part of Mexico were you traveling in? Puerto
Penasco known to Arizonans as Rocky Point is a well kept secret in Sonoita, Mexico.
This sleepy fishing village nestles in the Sea of Cortez and is set on 25 miles
of near uninhabited golden sand boasting wonderful sea food and luxury condominiums.
| |
| | What
was the purpose of your trip (recreation / work related / other)? I supply
my jewellery to Mayan Palace shops so this visit was work related (www. swankon.com)
I also enjoyed my time share which is at the new Mayan Palace Luxury Resort set
on the beach, which will boast a golf course designed by Jack Nicklause in the
near future. This accommodation is in luxury suites and has a heated indoor swimming
pool for the few cool days in Jan to Feb.A wonderful gym and spa and a very beautiful
pool and restaurant perched on the edge of the sea.
| | How
many people did you travel with? Two
| | What
kind of vehicle were you driving (Make / Model / etc.)? Honda Accord
| | How
did the vehicle handle the trip? We have driven to Puerto Penasco which
is a four hour drive from Tucson many times and find it to be a very pleasant
drive, the route is simple and the destination makes everything worth while.
| | How
were the road conditions? Any specific areas to be aware of? Road conditions
very good no danger points. Crossing the boarder is simple.
| | Did
you have a good time? My husband and I had a wonderful time. We shopped
for 'Talavera' beautiful Mexican pottery which is usually so expensive but very
cheap in Mexico and even less expensive hand painted ceramics large and small, finishing
our shopping trip with a variety of sterling silver jewellery for Christmas presents.
The silver jewellery is a must it is so beautiful, set with turquiose and other
gems. | |
| | Would
you drive to Mexico again? We will definitely drive to Mexico on a regular
basis, we have no need to fly when we can reach paradise with the car in just
four hours. | |
| | What
would you do differently next time? We would not do anything differently
next time. | |
| | What
words of advice do you have for others driving to Mexico / or others who are driving
to a particular destination? My advice would be please watch the speed
limits and drive carefully. There are a few places to stop on the way,the town
of WHY is fun it consists of one store and gas station and driving through the
National Park before you get to Sonoita is great fun.
| | What
were some of the highlights of the trip? We would really like to hear about these!
The more descriptions and details, the better! The highlights of the trip
were watching the sun set on the beach, walking barefoot at the waters edge every
morning before breakfast on virgin sand, collecting shells and listening to the
sea gulls, seeing the pelicans dive for fish and if you are lucky seeing the dolphins
swim past.
Lying at the pool and sipping Pina Coladas and Margaritas at
happy hour Enjoying a wonderful evening of music with Mariachis and Mexican food
at the Mayan Palace's wonderful restaurant.
| | Where
did you sleep? Can you recommend a place to stay? We stayed at our time
share the new Mayan palace which boasts resorts in many areas of Mexico,it is
situated west and 30 mins away from the town. The Sonaran Condos are beautiful
luxury condos where we have stayed in the past just around the corner from the
town set on the beach and Hotel Gloria is the only hotel in the area, located in
the town. | |
| | Can
you recommend any restaurants? The Dolphin restaurant is one of our favourites
specialising in true Mexican food with a wonderful atmosphere, we also like the
Lighthouse set on the hill side offering really good sea food and the Captains
table. A new pub named Black Dog is very good and has live music at the week-ends
and a lovely new and very quaint coffee house owned by a lady from Holland is
next door, here you can have really good coffee.
| | Any
other comments...feel free to ramble! Peurto Penasco is a quaint fishing
village with a variety of small shops and a fish market where you can buy the
biggest shrimp you have ever seen straight off the shrimp boats. it has a harbour
and fishing trips are available, one can also sail to Sea Lion Island.
The
town has night life for those wanting it and is very busy when the University
of Arizona closes for vacation.
