| | A
little info about yourself (where are you from / retired / line of work): At
the time of my visit to Mexico I was working for Surfrider Foundation but have
moved back to the North West to work protecting snow leopards.
| |
| | Date
of your trip: two trips 10/24 - 10/25 and 10/27 - 10/28
| | How
many days were you in Mexico? 4
| | What
was your destination / what part of Mexico were you traveling in? Rosarito
| |
| | What
was the purpose of your trip (recreation / work related / other)? Recreation
- trip with my 19 year old nephew so that we could have our first legal drink
together...
Second trip with a friend that loves to shop. We had great
time haggling. | |
| | How
many people did you travel with? 1 each trip
| | What
kind of vehicle were you driving (Make / Model / etc.)? 1990 Ford Taurus
| |
| | How
did the vehicle handle the trip? Just fine.
| | How
were the road conditions? Any specific areas to be aware of? Road conditions
were fine. The merge at the border was very disconcerting.
| | Did
you have a good time? Had a great time! People were very nice.
| | Would
you drive to Mexico again? Yes, if I lived in Southern California again.
| |
| | What
would you do differently next time? I wouldn't drive down there during
rush hour and return on a Sunday. The merge at the border was packed and stressful.
Plus the return trip on a Sunday early evening was packed. It took two hours to
get across the border on a Sunday evening.
| | What
words of advice do you have for others driving to Mexico / or others who are driving
to a particular destination? The only stressful part of the trip was at
the border. Try to travel at off times. Be very careful of cars around you at
the border when 8 lanes merge down to 2 or 4. People used to this merge handle
it with a flipant nature and it's stressful.
| | What
were some of the highlights of the trip? We would really like to hear about these!
The more descriptions and details, the better! The highlights of the trip
was the shopping. We shopped around in Rosarito and found very good deals on items
just by checking out all of the stalls and then going back to the ones we wanted
and haggling. It was a great experience for my 19 year old nephew where haggling
is just not done where he is from. He was quite pleased with his purchases for
his family and it was a great shopping experience for a man. Also, I would recommend
for the party scene, to party at Senor Frog's. We tried a different club but it
was dead there. Senor Frog's was hopping and for a 19 year old who want's to drink
and play, the more the better is the scene appropriate for this situation.
The
second trip was during the week. It was dead in Rosarito but since we weren't
down there for the party scene this time that was ok. The great part about that
was that we were able to haggle even better with the vendors. They just didn't
have very many customers so they were willing to go much lower than the weekend
haggling. | |
| | Where
did you sleep? Can you recommend a place to stay? We stayed at the Rosarito
Hotel. Right in downtown Rosarito. I would recommend but consider a couple of
things:
We requested to look at a few different rooms at the price level
we were able to afford. The rooms were considerably different and I was very glad
that we looked around. We got a nice room; very simple but adequate. The second
trip I took down there I was upgraded because of some simple problems I had had
the first trip. I requested it and they complied with very little resistance.
Hense, that haggling part again. I highly recommend you ask for what you would
like. | |
| | Can
you recommend any restaurants? I can not remember the name of the restaurant
we went to but it was on the main strip and it had mining carts in front. It was
very woodsy and had a fireplace. It was nice and the food was great!
| | Any
other comments...feel free to ramble! The Rosarito hotel has a deal where
you get a meal with your first night stay. It was really good and worth the extra
you might pay to stay there. We ate right there at the hotel most of the time
and the food was really good and the service was excellent.
The 1st trip
was on a weekend and the night clubs were offering many deals to get you in their
night club. There are a lot of clubs to chose from. They offer all you can drink
bands for around $20 a piece. We did this and regretted it afterward. The drinks
were very watered down and not worth the price. We probably had 8-10 drinks each
and were just fine. As if we had not had any drinks or maybe one or two.
Chose
Senor Frogs over the clubs on the beach. They are out of the way and hugh so the
feel is desolate. | |
